Fly Tying Workshop
July 31, 2010
10 a.m. – noon
Amoskeag Fishways, Manchester
The Amoskeag Fishways presents a special program to learn how to tie flies. Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned fish-wrangler, you can explore new tying tips and tricks to some classic fly patterns. This workshop is intended to be an open forum for fly fishermen and women to learn the fundamentals of tying and how to tie a new pattern. Anglers can have fun swapping stories and meeting like-minded individuals. Participants will tie at least one new fly, learn how to use it, and why it should always be in the fly box. All abilities welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For ages 8 and up. Cost: $8 per person, per workshop. Advance registration with payment required. Public Meeting August 4, 2010, on Atlantic Herring "Days Out"
A public meeting to discuss adjustments to the allowable "days out" measures for the remainder of the 2010 fishing season for commercial herring harvesters from N.H., Maine and Mass. will be held by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission on August 4, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. in Alexandria, Va. Public Hearing August 10, 2010, on Proposed Fish and Game Rule Changes for Licenses
Proposed Fish and Game rule changes will be discussed at a public hearing being held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H. Click here for more information.
Waterfowl Season Meeting Set for August 18, 2010
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will hold a public meeting on proposed season dates and bag limits for the 2010 waterfowl hunting season on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., at the N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive in Concord. Comments at the meeting will be considered in finalizing New Hampshire’s 2010 waterfowl season dates. Click here for more information.
Women's Outdoor Weekend Workshop: Learn to Fish from a Kayak -- Sign up by August 16, 2010. Event takes place September 24-26, 2010, at Purity Spring Resort in Madison, N.H. Participants will learn how to rig their kayak for fishing; kayak fishing techniques, including casting, lures, bait and trolling. Click here for more information.
National Hunting and Fishing Day -- New Hampshire Events: Saturday, September 25, 2010! This fall's big hunting and fishing event in the Granite State is a statewide celebration hosted by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, with presenting sponsor the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire. Come enjoy a Sporting Expo at Fish and Game Headquarters in Concord and hands-on activities at Fish and Game's Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness; plus other events at retail outlets and sporting clubs statewide, posted at wildlife.state.nh.us/nhfday.
- Sporting Expo: The NH Fish and Game grounds at 11 Hazen Drive in Concord will be transformed into an outdoor sporting expo in celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 25, 2010. More than 40 product manufacturer representatives will be on hand with exhibits, demonstrations and activities for visitors, focusing on hunting and fishing-related products and services.
In addition, come enjoy:
- Archery and air rifle ranges
- Hunting gear and accessories – from guns to decoys to scents and calls
- Pointing dog and retriever demonstrations
- Duck and goose calling lessons and demonstrations
- Taxidermy exhibits
- Fly-tying demonstrations
- State record buck on display
- "Forever Locked" moose exhibit
- Food concession available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Hands-on Activities at Fish and Game’s Owl Brook Hunter Education Center. Owl Brook (Click here for directions)will be open to the public for the National Hunting and Fishing Day event, September 25, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., free of charge. Adults can enter a free raffle for two guns donated by Thompson Center Arms and Sturm Ruger (one each). There will be a host of hands-on activities and seminars for youth and families during the day, including:
- 3-D archery course
- Video-based interactive shooting simulator
- Ruger pro staff will help you hone your shotgun skills – you can shoot their new guns, too
- Thompson/Center Arms pro staff will be on hand to demonstrate their newest line of muzzleloaders; visitors will get a chance to try them out
- Treestand safety demo
- Trapping techniques demonstration by a N.H. Trappers Association representative
- Free ice cream donated by Granite State Dairy Promotion
- Free raffle for two guns
