RUFFED GROUSE WING AND TAIL STUDY EXPANDED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE STATE
New Hampshire Fish and Game conducted a grouse wing and tail survey in northern New Hampshire in 2009. For the 2010 season, we are expanding our surveying efforts to include the entire state. Fish and Game is working hard to increase our knowledge of ruffed grouse and we could use your help. Any grouse hunter can participate by visiting one of the participating stores or a Fish and Game Office listed below.
You could win a gun! As an incentive to boost participation in this important data collection effort, the Ruffed Grouse Society has donated a quality shotgun to be raffled off among those who turn in completed and useable grouse study survey packets. The drawing will take place after the close of the 2010 ruffed grouse season.
Hunters can pick up grouse sample packets, which include envelopes and survey cards for two grouse samples, at any of the participating locations listed below. Completed packets must be returned to one of the same locations. Participating grouse hunters are asked to remove all tissue from wing and tail samples and to let them dry completely before placing the samples in the envelopes. Hunters are reminded NOT to place the samples in plastic of any kind. Hunters should place only one wing and tail in each envelope with the corresponding completed survey card. Sample packets can be picked up and dropped off at the locations listed below.
Please let other ruffed grouse enthusiasts know about this survey and help us increase participation this year, and stop in at one of the following participating locations and say thanks to these business owners for their effort, as well.
