Hot issue: The FY08-09 Budget

Director Lee Perry made Fish and Game's presentation on the budget to the House Finance Committee on March 5, 2007.

The Fish and Game Department budget, as part of the overall State budget, "crossed over" from the N.H. House to the N.H. Senate in April. The last remaining active bills related to Fish and Game funding -- for example, SB191, related to funding for the Nongame Program -- also crossed to the opposite chamber.

The House version of the budget does not contain additional General Fund support for the Department.

The Fish and Game Department has been testifying in the Senate regarding needed changes. Fish and Game's budget presentation before the Senate Finance Committee occurred on April 27.

Fish and Game presented its budget before the Senate Capital Budget committee on May 7. A Senate Ways and Means committee revenue briefing took place May 8.

What can I do to help?
Help others recognize the benefits and services that Fish and Game brings to everyone in New Hampshire, and ask them to support a new funding solution that will better reflect and better support our broad mission and consituency.

From the NH General Court website: "Citizen Participation: You have many opportunities to impact this process, including testifying at hearings, writing letters or making phone calls to your representatives, or working with organizations to create awareness of the possible impact of a piece of legislation. You should know that New Hampshire's "citizen legislature" is a great source of state pride, and that Representatives and Senators welcome phone calls at home since most of them don't have offices at the State House, and have little or no staff to help them gather information. To contact your Legislator you may call the House Clerk's office (603) 271-2548 or the Senate Clerk's office (603) 271-3420 for more information."

Who's on the NH State Legislative Committees this session? Certain committees will make decisions that directly affect Fish and Game funding before these legislative proposals come before the entire House or Senate. In addition to communicating with your own representatives, it's important to contact these keylawmakers (especially the chairpersons) to encourage them to support a funding solution for Fish and Game. Click on the committee name for contact information.
