Proposed Change to Atlantic Herring Regulation

DURHAM, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's Marine Fisheries Division will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed change to the rules for taking Atlantic sea herring on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road in Portsmouth, N.H.

The hearing centers around a proposed change in the sea herring regulation that would allow the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department to implement measures to slow the rate of harvest in the directed Atlantic herring fishery in order to prevent an early closure of the fishery, which occurs if the annual quota is reached.

For more information, call Doug Grout, Acting Marine Fisheries Division Chief, in N.H. Fish and Game's Region 3 office in Durham at (603) 868-1095.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is the guardian of the state's fish, wildlife and marine resources and their habitats.
