Young Women in Wildlife: Summer Day Camp for Girls at Great Bay Discovery Center

GREENLAND, N.H. -- The Great Bay Discovery Center in Greenland, N.H., is offering a weeklong day camp called Young Women in Wildlife for girls, age 12 - 15, who are interested in science and want to experience some real hands-on learning.  The camp will be offered July 13 - 17, 2009.

This day camp is an exciting opportunity for girls to learn from women who work in the fields of wildlife biology, marine biology, environmental education and land management.  Campers will be involved in lots of activities, including kayaking, going out on a research vessel to study and monitor the water quality and shellfish of Great Bay, participating in on-site fisheries research and much more.  The camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with pick-up by 4:00 p.m.

The cost for the week is $200 for Great Bay Steward members and $250 for non-members.  The fee includes all activities, field trip transportation, daily healthy snack and a cookout on the last day.  Campers should bring a change of clothing and a lunch.  Registration is limited to 14 girls.  For more information and to register, call the Great Bay Discovery Center at 603-778-0015.

The Great Bay Discovery Center is located on the shores of Great Bay at 89 Depot Road in Greenland.  The Discovery Center serves as the conservation-education headquarters for the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, which is a cooperative federal-state partnership between the N.H. Fish and Game Department and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  Visit www.greatbay.org.
