National Hunting and Fishing Day Celebration

National Hunting and Fishing Day - NH Celebration

Get set for the season at two free public events in New Hampshire celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 25, 2010. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will host a Sporting Expo in Concord, sponsored by the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire, and an Open House at Owl Brook Hunter Education Center in Holderness. Sporting Expo - Concord, N.H.

The N.H. Fish and Game Department grounds at 11 Hazen Drive in Concord will be transformed into a giant outdoor Sporting Expo from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on September 25, 2010. Admission is free. Under the big top, more than 40 product manufacturer representatives will present exhibits, demonstrations and activities for visitors. Come check out the latest hunting and fishing products and services. Demos and exhibits throughout the Fish and Game grounds. Conservation Officers and biologists will be on hand to talk about hunting and fishing. Features include:

  • Archery and air rifle ranges
  • Hunting gear and accessories – from guns to decoys to scents and calls
  • Pointing dog and retriever demonstrations
  • Duck and goose calling lessons and demonstrations
  • Taxidermy exhibits
  • Fly-tying demonstrations
  • State record buck on display
  • "Forever Locked" moose exhibit
  • Food available for purchase from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Over 50 raffle prizes, including the “new” Thompson/Center Arms Impact .50 caliber muzzleloader, a pheasant hunt for two, and a meat grinder/sausage maker (raffle proceeds benefit the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire).

Schedule:

Meet Milo the Moose - every half hour between 10 and 2

Pointing Dog Demonstrations with Grey’s Outfitting - 11:30 and 1:30 (half-hour)

Retriever Dog Demonstrations with Rise and Shine Retrievers - 10:45 and 12:45 (half-hour)

Raffle Drawing - 2:00

Open House at Owl Brook Hunter Education Center - Holderness

Also on September 25, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fish and Game’s Owl Brook Hunter Education Center at 387 Perch Pond Road in Holderness will be open to the public, featuring hands-on activities for youth and families. Admission is free. Click here for directions to Owl Brook. Special activities at Owl Brook (all free) during the National Hunting and Fishing Day event include:

  • 3-D archery course
  • Video shooting simulator
  • Chance to to try Ruger shotguns and Thompson / Center Arms new line of muzzleloaders.
  • Trapping techniques demo by the N.H. Trappers Association
  • Tree stand safety activity
  • Free ice cream donated by Granite State Dairy Promotion
  • Pick up your FREE raffle ticket at Owl Brook to win great prizes, such as a Thompson/Center Arms muzzleloader and a Ruger firearm. Must be present to win.

Other Activities - Statewide

Agents and sporting goods retailers may offer special National Hunting and Fishing Day in-store sales or discounts, seminars, product demos or other activities. Sporting clubs are encouraged to open their doors to the public for special sight-in days, muzzleloader shoots, range tours or shotgun events.
